Inaugural Fine and Decorative Arts Sale
Lot 146:
Description
This very attractive room-size antique Heriz was woven at the turn of the century with an overall ground woven in threads of warm brick red in a design that remains largely open with a matrix of woven vines and small floral representations framed in beige spandrels. An angular eight-point medallion in the center is a powerful motif with dark navy blue in the points and beige in the center. The contrasts are most striking with mellowed coral, teal and strong red pigments set against steel blue, lapis and dark navy elements. Over one hundred years of gentle use have mellowed the rug into a warm and inviting piece with a low pile that raises the sharp geometry of the carpet to your eye immediately.
