Description

Multi-use European linen closet circa 18th century – can be used as a wardrobe, cabinet, closet or dresser.

A lovely and very useful cupboard of good dimensions, it features a single door on wrought-iron hinges opening to reveal a shelved interior on the left and open hanging space on the right with hand-carved wooden hooks for jackets. The overall rectangular form is softened by canted corners, these decorated with painted flowers on vines over a white ground. The door features two molded panels with angular stylized flowers. The cabinet is raised on bun feet.

Condition: With extensive restorations over the years, quite competently and largely having joined the overall patina: door with applied strip along closing edge, door hardware and base molding replaced, paint decoration and faux-graining throughout is refreshed. Gaps in the base moldings, modern strip added to the reverse to close a crack. Heavily worn surface.
