Lot 88:
Description
HENDRIK MARTINUS FREDERIK GEORGE SAVRY (DUTCH, 1823–1907), Pastoral Landscape with Cow along a Canal, Oil on canvas, signed lower left “H. Savry f.”A rural Dutch landscape depicting a solitary cow walking beside a canal near a thatched-roof farmhouse, with a figure guiding a rowboat by rope along the waterway. In the distance, church spires rise above red-tiled roofs at the edge of town. Rendered in a high-chroma palette, the composition features richly saturated spring grasses, subdued atmospheric light, and mirrored reflections in the still water.
Savry—also known as Savrij—was known for pastoral scenes influenced by 17th-century Dutch masters. Though his work is relatively scarce, this example reflects his characteristic focus on cattle, agrarian life, and the interplay of light and atmosphere. 24 H x 32 W [canvas]; 30 1/8 H x 37 7/8 W [frame]
