Description
19th Century Bronze Bas-Relief Plaque of Walking Leopard on Walnut cast after a model by Antoine-Louis Barye. A finely textured sand-cast bronze bas-relief of a striding leopard, finished in a medium-brown patina with reddish undertones and mounted on a walnut panel. This model, originally conceived by Barye in 1831, is held in several major museum collections, including the Walters Art Museum (27.495), the Metropolitan Museum of Art (12.149.8), the Philadelphia Museum of Art (W1893-1-159), and the Brooklyn Museum (10.193, titled Puma). 3 3/8 H x 5 1/4 W [bronze only]; 4 1/2 H x 6 5/8 W x 5/8 D [total]

Condition: Good original condition; plaque has been carefully cleaned and sealed in beeswax. Rubbed highlights to the patina (ear, hip, edges). Walnut backing has some wood filling of holes on right side.
