Lot 35:
Description
French Napoleon III Painted Ovular Dining Table with Nero Portero Marble Top, circa late 19th century with a later white painted surface.A very attractive French Louis XVI style dining table, probably circa 1870–1890, later painted. The oval top, possibly in nero Portoro marble, rests over a plain apron raised on tapering fluted in the bevelled corners legs with crisply carved acanthus ornament at the capitals, anthemions along the knees and water-leave carvings around the ankles over toupie feet. The legs and apron retain a later white painted surface with apparently original black accenting and deliberate distressing. The top shows subtle ochre and gold veining throughout, consistent with Portoro or similarly decorative marbles.
30 5/8 H x 41 1/8 D x 71 3/8 W, 25 1/2 H to underside of the apron

Condition: Painted surface is not original and shows intentional distress. Very attractive in person. Numerous large chips around the edges of the marble. Note, the marble top easily lifts off of the table but is incredibly heavy – our gallery is happy to assist with loading at pickup.
