Description
French Provincial Parcel-Giltwood Gray Painted Trumeau Wall Mirror with Oil on Canvas Courting Scene, French, late 19th century.Tall trumeau mirror with upper oil on canvas pastoral scene depicting courting couples and a cupid in a garden setting. Lower section with smoky aged glass mirror. Framed throughout with crisp giltwood Rococo carving against a muted gray painted ground. Mirror plate likely replaced in the 20th century. A striking decorative piece of substantial scale. 86 1/4 H x 48 W x 2 5/8 D
Condition: Upper painting with surface grime; would benefit from cleaning and re-stretching; light craquelure present. Mirror glass likely replaced, showing extensive silvering loss and a smoky patina. Giltwood with scattered chips and losses; visible cracks in joints beneath paint. Painted surface with flaking, wear, and discoloration. Existing mounting hardware suitable for floor or console display; additional reinforcement recommended for wall mounting.
