Lot 62:
Description
Modernist Super Ellipse Coffee Table in Karelian Birch by Piet Hein and Bruno Mathsson, Sweden circa 1960s. Original labels retained to underside. A very good and relatively early example of Piet Hein and Bruno Mathsson’s collaboration line of Super-Ellipse, the present example is executed in a book-matched Karelian birch veneer with the underside edge of the top relieved with a slight bevel to create a thin visual line to the table. This is emphasized in the transparency of the legs, each composed of four thin steel rods that bend in a taper into substantial custom feet raised on a circular pad; all steel is finished in a brilliant chrome. The table retains all original tags to the underside. 20 1/2 H x 45 1/4 D x 63 W
Condition: Veneer chips to either end of the table top; some overall fading to the surface; light scuffs and scratches, minor use indicators; chrome in overall good condition with trace pitting and rust. A fine presentation.
