Lot 33:
Description
Empire Rosewood and Marble Pier Table, circa first half of 19th century. A good 19th century pier table with a gray marble top situated over a squared apron with chaotic rosewood veneers raised over sienna marble columns capped with exquisitely chiseled ormolu mounts and stretched with a broad lower shelf over bun feet. The center features an old mirror framed by squared columns on the sides.
38 1/4 H x 21 D x 51 W
ADDITIONAL NOTES ADDED 7/28/25:
1. Secondary wood is pine
2. Added shots of the marble, underside of marble, the back, the interior structure
3. The marble top in our opinion is replaced, as the shape in the back corners do not correspond to the shape of the apron. It is a nice old piece of marble that appears to date from the same period as the table (see attached shots of the underside of the marble)
4. The veneer is splitting from shrinkage throughout the lower stretcher shelf, also with minor losses and chipping; the surface is old, faded and discolored with typical age appropriate blemishes.
Condition: Married marble top. Lower shelf with cracking and old filling, as well as chipping and blemishes. Surface throughout is old and oxidized, nearly black in some areas. Backboard replaced. Mirror is an old replacement with some silvering losses. Sturdy and stable.
