Description

English Edwardian Inlaid Satinwood Tea Serving Cart

England, circa 1910

A clever design by Cross of England from the first quarter of the 20th century, this lovely tea serving cart (which doubles beautifully as a bar cart) features a satinwood body of thin angular form, the long tapered legs and rectilinear body with thin lines of inlay. The top features custom-cast brass handles that allow the entire top to lift off as a serving tray. The doors on all four sides of the body fall outward on custom brass hardware to allow the inside to be easily accessed and also give more room for service. Retains an original metal tag for CROSS ENGLAND. Raised on original oversized castors.

34 1/2 H x 29 3/4 W x 17 3/4 D (when opened it is 44 13/16 W x 33 D)

Condition: Appears to be all original hardware. Early surface with wear, discoloration, abrasions and joint separations as expected. Presents beautifully. The cart is a bit wiggly due to the nature of the design. Glass doors tend to open because the sprung ball catches are a bit worn and probably need new springs eventually. Glass on one door and the tray top is probably replaced as it is not bevelled.
